Saturday's visit back to the 1600's
I got out Saturday with my buddy Bill D for a visit back to our recent site that seems to date around the late 1600's. Like the first trip, we did not set the world on fire, but did dig some early items again.
It was slow, and while we got into a pit, it was dry other than brick and great color. One of the best looking layers I have dug in a while, but other than iron and brick there was nothing to it - strange indeed.
My take for the day was four or five more buttons (mostly early 1700s) but I did manage another pewter musket ball, early tudor rose and another intact 1600's spectacle buckle. At the end of the day we did find a site very close to this one that seemed to hold more early 1700's items. While back at the other, (where I dug the spectacle) Bill managed a nice early spoon dish with a makers mark.
I included my better finds from the past two trips, including the cleaned up 1600s nipple high-domed button. In two trips I have managed two of the early spectacles and other odds and ends. While we are not setting the world on fire here, it is worth another look as there has to be an early hammered coin hiding in there along with a very early pit or two.
