Well, we dressed for Antarctica today, but it really wasn't that bad. The wind didn't really start howling until we were about to leave.

My buddy got on the board early with a an 1840's Six Pence. I was determined to find a silver.

All three of these coins, any of us would have found. They weren't very deep.

I had no idea what the big copper was until my friend saw it. It turns out to be quite rare -- an 1815 Magdalen Island token. Unfortunately, it is in terrible shape.

The Magdalen Islands had only one coin - a 1 Penny token issued in 1815 by Sir Isaac Coffin.
The obverse of the coin depicts a seal on an ice floe. It is inscribed 'MAGDALEN ISLAND TOKEN 1815'. The reverse of the coin depicts two gutted fish similar to that depicted on 1/2d. tokens from Prince Edward Island. The reverse inscription is 'SUCCESS TO THE FISHERIES', which refers to the fishing industry essential to the islands' economy.
This coin is very sought after by collectors of British Empire coins, not just those of Canada, as this piece is very rare.

I'm also happy about getting on the silver board as well, with my first seated dime!

Happy hunting!

It must have been stuck in my brain from Rick's find, because when I read the subject line that was exactly what came to mind. Also because I didn't expect anything too rare. :laughing7: Damn those things seem to get eaten, at least the ones posted recently, but still a good one to cross off the list.

Haha, thanks IP. The farm is not kind. :)

No, not kind but still generous! Great finds and congrats. Thank you for the pics.

Just save the great condition for something that is rare because this... "as this piece is very rare." is most definitely not true. Maybe rare to dig, but that's it. I'd say you had it right with scarce... closer anyway!

Haha, scarce it is. :happysmiley:

Nice finds...seeing a lot of Yankee silver popping up north of the border lately...a trend I hope will continue!

Although not rare , I think finding one in any place, that's rare!
One less old coin stuck in the ground is awesome in my books!

The last few I saw were found on the Atlantic coast, upper Canada is a bit off the beaten track

The coast with the most!

Then you can say the same thing about the seated because they sure are not falling from the sky for us to pick up. I still just have the one from the dead fox field.

Seeing a snowstorm today was quite a shock... really didn't expect that.

Antarctica!?!?! Boy! Must be a COLD day in Hades! LOL

Great saves!

Those cold days dont seem so bad when your finding the goodies...

Nice! That Seated dime looks like it was dropped shortly after it was minted.

Congrats on your finds. Perfection is state of mind, you found a rare one!! Congrats!

Nice coppers and seated, that's part of what makes this hobby so great. Congrats on your cool finds.

I'd take that day, given we're running out of days left this year!

How about a big WOW. I vote "rare", "scarce", "awesome", "incredible", and so forth and so on for the description. Who cares what ya call em. They are indeed awesome finds. The seated is in great shape. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Thanks, folks. :)

Head for the coast Hunthicks! It's our only hope, lol...
