Way back it was pointed out that if you have a tunnel open to the ocean, all kinds of sea life would migrate into the tunnel and make a home there.
Funny thing, that. There's been no mention or sightings of any such in explorations underground anywhere.
Is this the purpose of the filter system on the beach?
Could it be?

Since it was proven long ago that flood tunnels never existed, the reason is obvious.

Even if there were some kind of tunnel out into the ocean with all the digging at the shore line over the last hundred years they would have long been caved/filled in and no one realized them.. It would be interesting to know for sure what all did happen at the shore line with all that has been found there. Figure 200-400 or more years ago the shore in would have been further out so it's not like much a ship could have pulled up to the "L" shaped structure to unload..

Haven't got there yet ... thinking.

To prove a negative you have to prove all possible explanations of a positive result are impossible.

The flood tunnel doesn't have to be a sea tunnel. Although it's accepted that any flood pool is tidal, simply rain could make the levels go up and down. That would make the underground like an isolated giant fresh water storage system.

Which begs the question - was it tidal, AND IS IT STILL TIDAL?

When the 4 searcher shafts were dug down parallel to the MP, they always encountered water. Was it seawater or freshwater? It's still an open question.

There's a lidar scan page 4, "Season 7 ...", record 16 dated 2016? 2019? Zooming in you see current elevations of the seabed at Smith's Cove, which suggest activities which dumped stuff out there, which in turn suggests the stuff covered up the
Intakes of the drain holes.

Again I ask "Are the pools STILL TIDAL?"

Nothing on the island has been PROVEN to not have been possible. Highly unlikely , yes.. There was coconut fibers ( that had to be brought to the area ) found and some hand placed rock formations where the supposedly flood tunnels were to be. Granted these could have been for salt mining as some believe but even that can't be proven at this point.
Money Pit was there, and that is a fact. Might not have EVER had treasure in it and most all the stories about it might not be true but the HOLE that was being dug is a FACT... One of the few true facts about the whole OI story. All the wood structures found along the coast edge. L shaped structure etc, are/were there. Some have been date coded to well before the first MP story, but no one knows for a fact as to what they were used for. Unless they were actually searching long before the 3 guys started their dig!! Imagine that for a moment.

This set of lidar scans are proving very interesting. Although I am no expert in interpreting such, I think I see something important.
The top image is a thermal scan. Of note is that the island has a large heat signature ON THE EAST END, indicating subterranean volcanic activity. Close examination shows a caldera and another volcanic vent.
Image 2 shows the money and .cave-in pits.
This suggests that the two pits are actually sinkholes which were originally volcanic vent tubes, which is why a depression would appear.
It doesn't prove/explain/add to the knowledge of what humans did when around/in the MP, but it DOES explain
WHY THAT SPOT.

Dunfield and others dug up the entire smith's cove beach area as well as the path from the beach to the "money pit" area. No flood tunnels were ever found.

Saying that actual digs showing nothing was there is not proof is nothing more than believing in fantasy.

The laginas count on this to keep their fictional cable show #'s up.

Not an expert on that either, BUT IT DOESN'T PREVENT ME FROM EXPRESSING AN OPINION.

I figure the lava pipe exits are at the top of the bedrock, and the glacial till arrived later. The till is what is drawn down into the pits.

There is evidence of sulfur under OI, and sulfur byproducts such as H2S gas and FES2 fool's gold have been detected. Sulfur comes from volcanic activity.

It took me awhile to understand that the MP in NOT in the Dunfield excavation.

As you look at the picture of his diggings on north side of island (view facing south), the actual MP is over the ridge and to the right. The graphics showing different are wrong.

This is just general info for all interested folk.

I've heard you say this before and have been meaning to ask how you know this (i.e. the LAGINAS took it down).

The tunnels were filled with coconut fiber, so therefore no sealife.

Years ago when dye was poured into the pit it was observed coming out into the ocean on a couple of sides of the island so that would at least establish that the water in the pit is somehow connected to the ocean... The use of dye was used before the appearance of the Laginas as well as after the Lagina's showed up on the island before they finally found treasure by turning the show into a revenue stream as a reality show.
