Detector(s) used
Garrett AT Pro and Garrett Pin Pointer
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I've only had this for about two weeks but I seem to get a lot of false hits on it. I took it to the local beach and ran it in the water for a while. I kept getting a hit but after digging and digging and digging there was nothing there. That seemed to happen several times to me. I adjusted the discrimination up and put it on the discrete trash mode but still had problems. Is this just me or has anyone else had issues like this ?

Any advice with this detector would really be appreciated.

The SH mkII can pick up bird shot at 5-6 inchs. I know this because I have taking mine in to lakes and with my Pro Pointer I have been able to locate my finds while using scuba. These finds would have been nearly impossible to find using a sand scoop. All I can say is if the target keeps moving around on you and you can't seem to get it in the scoop then it is most likely very small, like an ear-ring back so move on. The coins and rings will stay in the scoop.
I have also had mine sound off on bricks, it will pick up the iron oxide in the brick clay.
In shallow water waves can give you a false hit.
If you are wading or walking make sure that you have no metal on your shoes, like the lace eyelets.
Hope this helps,

That does help. Thanks. I have a Fisher F2 I use for land hunting. I just need to get into the water and get more experience.

When I started getting older I gave up on the pulse detectors because I couldn't dig all them deep holes for tiny trash. The use of a Excal or CZ-21 greatly improves your find ratio to trash for amount of time spent.:icon_thumright:
