Hello I am new here, thought I had a Minelab for a good price got sold to another guy while I was driving to pick it up. Anyway I am looking for a reasonably priced detector I can use underwater (salt) and say on the beach. I have found some Sea Hunters xl 500 for around $300, is this a fair price and would this be a good model for my dual usage??

Thanks for any advice, or other models you could suggest,

BILL

Bill I would keep looking for a good used excal....Just my personal opinion....

I don't think that is a good deal. That machine is old. You might consider something newer.

Cool, thanks

I really do appreciate the feed back.

......$300.00 sounds a bit high......I got mine for around $200.00....these may be old but they still perform......just make sure that there are no cracks in the plexiglass case ....and most of the time the rechargeable batteries need to be replaced also........during the Christmas break I found a XL 500 with a cracked case but working for $50.00....about the same time I also found a good plexiglass case with no cracks for the same price .........plus some money for some minor repairs ......I got it working for under $150.00................OVERALL THE EXCAL IS PROBABLY A BETTER DEAL ........BUT A USED ONE IS PROBABLY AT LEAST $600.00......so you have to decide if you want to spend $200.00 or $600.00........the old adage is true ......YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.......GOOD LUCK ....JOE

You spend $600+/- for a good used excal, never dig a single piece of iron trash, have a fantastic detector and you could sell it 2 years from now for what you paid or more.

I paid $475 for my last used excal in Oct 2009, I could sell it for $700 easily now....Just something to think about...

.....No offense .......but money is tight....and some could readily come up with $200.00 to $300.00 but $600.00 can be a tad out of reach.........anyway my philosophy is buy the cheaper Garrett after a few 14K rings you can upgrade to the Excal......but I am an Old Timer and have used the Garrett SeaHunter PI since 1984 or so...so that is what I would use at the salt water beach......LOL.....Joe
