Sealed copper tube

So I got almost 2 hours of detecting in with my sister. I found a makeup compac that has my aunt's name scribed inside. I also found this tube. It's exactly as wide as a dollar bill. It didn't appear to have been soldered. Nothing loose inside. Any ideas what it might be?

I'm wondering if it is a cosmetic case of some sort. I thought maybe an old fuse at first. It doesn't appear to come apart.

No idea what it is but I would like to see it cleaned up. Looks very interesting, and I am sure if it is a holder of some kind you could find a new use for it.

I found out that it's magnetic. Gonna saw it open later.

Saw it open; maybe soak it in something to eat the gunk away to see if there is an opening seam? Vinegar, ketchup, never dull, heck man anything but the saw.

Just my thoughts man, pretty cool looking. No idea what it is, but since you dont and no one else does. LOL

Agree with Oddjob, please try to get it open without using a saw first. Interesting tube and would hate to ruin it.

I vote for an old cigarette lighter. I had one very similar in size and shape at one time...it is not round but flattened right? Let us know what you learn! (and don't hack it up unless you have to!)

I'd cry like a baby if I cut into it and found it to be threaded and was a money holder full of rolled up silver certificates with fresh new hacksaw marks.

Any luck with getting it open? Would you mind posting a photo from a different angle? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Heck no. It's sealed tight.

If you insist on sawing, do it VERY carefully so as to just break through. There could be a genie inside and you would be set for life.

Wire brush those 2 seams than squirt penetrating oil and wait awhile and try twisting the ends in opposite directions.

Does it feel like something is inside? Have you been able to clean it up? Ketchup and an old tooth brush should be able to do that.

I'd start with a vinegar soak. If that doesn't work, electrolysis. If it still won't come apart, I'd try welding gloves and a butane torch before I'd use a saw.

Hope it's not the handle from a tap
