You guys are gettin me addicted I really want to find an Axehead. I had a couple of hours to blow this morning and went back to the site were I found a spearpoint/Blade last week http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,234795.0.html
After a little research I found out this location was a village for quite some time so I will be spending some time there.
I didn't find an axe but found some nice points and a worn out grinding bowl, what was sorta cool is I found a broke then found the tip about 10' upstream. I talked to a buddy who found a Pomo fish Trap on this site and I will try and get pictures he said it is in really good shape.

That stone bowl is awsome. What a great find. If you found that bowl that place has not been hunted to hard. I would be going back soon. Look forward to seeing the fish trap?? Great find. Thanks for sharing.

I'm curious about this "fish trap" you speak of. Some pics would be great!
Me too I hope he comes up with some

that place has not been hunted to hard
Yep I will go again tomorrow it's on a huge bend in the river and every year it changes the river almost does a 360 it has been privte property since the late 1800s but I got permission to fish it so I just walk around with a pole Ha ha.

Sorry no pictures of the fish trap here is a description he sent me.

I don't have any photos of it but, I'll describe it for you. It was bell shaped maybe 30-36" in diameter at the base and 36" tall. As I recall the construction it was willow braided hop at the bottom with stays coming up about 1-2" apart it had two more hops at 10 and 20" woven and then the stays were gathered at the top to form like a handle. I think it was use to stalk the river and trap fish by lowering it down over the fish. However I'm no expert that's just how I would of used it. It could of been a basket for carrying rocks? I took it home and as soon as it started to dry out it started falling apart, I gave to friend who collected Indian artifacts and he conserved it and its part of a collection now.

If you found that out in the desert as I suspect you did, that is a very good indicator of certain trade or travel routes they were using, as well as telling you a great deal about why they were there. That will reveal more information than the average artifact.

Thanks for the link but I found the Mortar in a small creek right next to the Russian River in NorCal

haha I am laughing about you carrying the fishing pole. We do the same sometimes. Many artifacts can be in local areas. Its not illegal to hunt them on the surface but if everyone thinks that is what you are doing you will have hordes of people looking. We also set up chairs and blankets and snorkel.
Some young kids were swimming on the river and asked what we were doing and we said hunting arrowheads. A girl said hunting air heads?????? I bet fell over laughing.
