I did a search this am of 2 old Churches and an old school. One church, that is new was where the old church stood since 1886. the other church was rebuilt using some of the old church and also dates back to the late 1800s (got permission here to detect in Spring). The old one room schoolhouse was est in 1901 and is owned by the township. What is better to start with? Will the churches be better than the school? We still have a foot of snow here on the ground and the wind is blowing today at 60mph.....jim

IMO the churches would be better than the schools depending on how "rural" they are. The more rural the less chance of kids having money or losing it. Either would be a blast though... I think you should just start swining and get a feel for the area and the space. Both places should produce something...

North/mid Michigan....very rural. I think that the churches would be best also. I think they would have had socials where the women would like to dress up and the kids would have played outside with their donation money. Whereas with the schools, the kids would have packed a lunch and would not have had any money because it is a poor area where logging was the prime source of living, at the time. I am looking forward to the hunt! :)

Hey there , Arizona,

I wish you lots of luck on the old church and school when you do them.

I have an old school to search that dates back into the 1800's. I have known about it for years and years but only
got my detector a year ago and have had other closer places to work on. I did wonder how to find out who owned it so to get permission to hunt it. Then I found out that a friend of mine who I have had business dealings with, and also lives next door to my brother-in-law is the owner. When i asked him, he told me I can hunt there anytime. Now that is a prime
spota for this comming summer. One other spot I am looking foreward to hunt(which I also now have permission for) is
an old fur trade route and Indian trail. It is low ground and is sometimes under water so will have to wait until late summer for that one probably.

Either one. Remember that school houses were also used as a meeting place back in the day if other structures were not available. Reunions could of been held there through the years also. Each spot has great potential. Ya never know til ya go.
