The bad timing of the recent rain has delayed the harvesting of our virgin Roman Site.:sadsmiley:
However, it gave us an opportunity to try our newest permission. Land-Mag is hoping based on his research that it is not only the crossing of a small stream but a Roman Crossroads of 2 semi-major routes.
This was only a quick 1.5 hours of just myself & Land-Mag to act as a scouting mission & work out if this grassland is worth further effort.
On the walk around with the owner we found out that it hasn't been ploughed in recent memory, ie. 50 years. However, I suspected that it was once Medieval ridge & furrow which had been later flatten by either Georgian or Victorian Ploughing. Today I did find some evidence of this because the Tudor Buckles were only 6 inches & the Georgian button looked plough damaged. So this field stays on the list for wetter conditions in the Winter months.

3 Musket Balls from the same mould - Land-Mag found 2 as well
2 Tudor Spectacle Buckles
Ancient looking copper-alloy/bronze plate with holes?:icon_scratch:

So it's wasn't a blank.

Exploring the new permissions is a huge part of the fun. Good luck on finding the Roman crossroads. If the theory is right, the results should be more than satisfying.

And more possibilities! A crossroad with stream may hide a rest area for horse and rider. :icon_thumright:

Looks like a promising start!

Thanks CRU. Always an interesting story with some nuggets thrown in to help us fledging detectorists with our detecting. Good luck with your hunts. Walt
