I've been doing some research on an Army camp from the 18 teens. I made my fourth trip out there today trying to get an idea about it. The site is on a bench above the creek. I first went looking for a spring where they may have gotten water. I found this spot that looks like a ditch where water is coming out of the ground.
So I got in there and looked for any signs that it had been used by humans. I found numerous pieces of flint and the tip of one point.
I also found this piece of metal. At first I thought it was brass since it only had rust on one tip. After I got home with it I decided it is a nail.
The area where I believe the camp was at was a field at one time. Around the edges of the field before it drops to creek are what appear to be dirt piles. Since we have had a lot of rain lately the leaves are washed off exposing the soil. I found many chips of flint on the surface. I also found 2 more broken pieces.
I walked on around the edge of the old field looking for more springs. I found one more and walked up it. I noticed a spot in the side with charcoal. There was a huge chunk of metal sticking out of the bank. It was about a foot and a half down.
It was corroded and I knocked most of it off. It is about 3 feet long 4 inches wide and a half inch thick. I also found a rusty chunk that I hit on a rock and it turned out to be a carraige bolt. Only one other item other than coals came out.
Thanks for looking
