I haven't been out much lately so when I had some time to go Saturday I jumped on it. I was planning on driving down a ways to an old school to look for some silver, but I changed my mind and went to a field site close to home. I was told there was a Civil War campsite here and I know there was a lot of activity in this area. I got the go ahead to hunt, put my boots on and got to swinging. I was digging the typical trash when I got a choppy signal on my Etrac. I was hoping to dig some bullets and maybe luck up on a button, and I didn't even have coins on my mind. I was very surprised to see silver in my clump after finding the signal. It didn't take long after seeing the older style wreath that I had an older Seated dime. I don't dig these often so it's a thrill when I luck up on one. I took my time to enjoy the moment and got it cleaned up enough to see she's a worn 1857 but she's pretty awesome to me. With so much wear it's hard to say if it was dropped by a soldier. I did find a nice 3 ringer close by along with some other small bullets and pieces of brass. I didn't find much more but that little coin made my day. There is a lot of field to cover and I hope to get back there soon if the weather allows. HH David

Congrats on the find and being able to get out. I'm still looking for my first but I'll take one even if I'm not looking for it.

Thanks Trapper. I hope you get over your first seated soon. It seems they will pop up when you least expect it. Good Luck to ya!

Congrats on the seated coin! I have yet to find one, but I keep digging holes, none the less.

Best of luck to you!

Wow,, it only takes one good find to turn a good hunt into an Incredible Hunt!
Congrats on the Seated

Congratulations on the seated dime! :occasion14:

Hey Sooper, I'm sure you were suprised when that beautiful silver popped out! Like many others here, I'm still scratching for my first ANYTHING seated...but I'll take what Mother Earth gives up, I had a decent year and can't wait til Spring thaw to get back out...That's why I love this hobby, even a silver Rosie or a Merc makes me just as excited as when I dug my first one...Congrats on your awesome Seated...ddf

Thanks DDF! I'm the same with any old coins but it's a big thrill the older they are. I hope you get your first seated coin soon! It's a rush you won't forget! Good Luck!

Congrats on the seated. The head area seems to wear rather easily on these but based on the fact that the shield is also worn down then I would say this coin circulated for at least 10 years but probably closer to 20-30. I only say this based on all the ones I found this year on a site with a known brief history

Thanks Toasted. I would say it's several years of circulation on this coin. Just always a fun thought that it was a soldiers coin. Always fun to find a Seated!

Nice Seated and 3-Ringer. I love those fresh out of the dirt shots! :icon_thumleft:
