I haven't been out much lately so when I had some time to go Saturday I jumped on it. I was planning on driving down a ways to an old school to look for some silver, but I changed my mind and went to a field site close to home. I was told there was a Civil War campsite here and I know there was a lot of activity in this area. I got the go ahead to hunt, put my boots on and got to swinging. I was digging the typical trash when I got a choppy signal on my Etrac. I was hoping to dig some bullets and maybe luck up on a button, and I didn't even have coins on my mind. I was very surprised to see silver in my clump after finding the signal. It didn't take long after seeing the older style wreath that I had an older Seated dime. I don't dig these often so it's a thrill when I luck up on one. I took my time to enjoy the moment and got it cleaned up enough to see she's a worn 1857 but she's pretty awesome to me. With so much wear it's hard to say if it was dropped by a soldier. I did find a nice 3 ringer close by along with some other small bullets and pieces of brass. I didn't find much more but that little coin made my day. There is a lot of field to cover and I hope to get back there soon if the weather allows. HH David

Very nice find I also haven't found one yet I keep display cases for my jewelery and for my coins I need some of those!!!!Thanks for sharing your find!!!!!!!

Congrats on the seated and CW lead Dave!! I'd go all week finding nothing if I knew a seated was my next find. Lol
I found a seated last year and it was my only keeper find for the day but, it more then made up for lack of other finds.
If there's more in that field I'm sure you'll find it. Good Luck on your next hunt there!!

Nice Seated and 3-Ringer. I love those fresh out of the dirt shots! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Wildcat! Yeah I love seeing coin and relic pics fresh out of the ground too.

There are treasures close to home!! That seated is a great example that closer is better!! WTG...........:icon_thumright:

Thanks Chizzy! Yeah always a big bonus to finding something close by. I know I've put many hours on the road to come back empty handed. This one made up for a bunch of those!

Thanks Steve! Yeah it only takes one great find to turn it around. We spend a lot of time not finding much but I like how it averages out. Probably get tired of finding Seateds all the time... yeah probably not. I still get exited about a Merc but there's something really special about a Seated! Good luck to ya buddy!

Great job Soops!!!! Nice to see you back buddy and that's a great little coin

Thats a great looking coin. Congrats on the old Seated.

Seated is always nice to find. Congrats.

Nice! I know you can't prove it, but I think the dropped three ringer makes a strong case for the seated dime being dropped by a CW soldier. In any case, that field is full of promise. Good luck on future hunts!

Thanks Tommy. Yeah I think it's got to much wear to be a soldier drop but like you say it's hard to prove either way. It's fun to imagine the stories behind this old coin tho.

Congrats on a nice seated coin....:icon_thumright:
