Ended my silver drought last night. Went to one of my favorite curb strip spots within the city hoping to dig a few more keepers before the snow flies. Ground conditions were perfect with damp soil but not too muddy. Had a classic 29-30 signal on my Nox and dug this 1854 seated quarter. Although only about 5" deep, it was way off to the side of the hole and I had to expand it which I found unusual for such a target. I typically run sensitivity at 24-25 so it was probably too hot for these damp soil conditions.

It's counterstamped with 'F. YAGER." At first, seeing the backside I thought I had an aluminum token.... then I saw the eagle and thought 'Barber!!!' Dirt clung to the face, so I was really thrilled when I discovered it was a seated quarter!

Nice seated and the counter stamp really makes it unique, Congrats:icon_thumleft:

That quarter with a name counterstamped on it is a very unusual and nice find.

Excellent find congrats! In my opinion the stamp only adds to it!

Wow, that's one heck of a find. Well done and thanks for sharing!!

Great Find ! I'm sure there is a story behind that name too .

nice! the counter stamp is really cool

Great find would be fun to reasearch who thay might be Well done

Awesome counterstamped seated. First one Ive seen since I got one a few years ago

Would be interesting to look that up in the counterstamp book by Brunk and see if it is rare. Some are very rare and valuable, others common or unlisted...

Congrats on the big silver. :occasion14:

Congrats on the Seated Q!. It's quite worn, so the counterstamp makes it a better find all around. Maybe you can do some research and find who F. Yaeger was - perhaps an 1800s local merchant.

John

Congratulations! That is an awesome coin!

...I guess you need to find F Yaeger's decedents and return his quarter to them :tongue3:

Nice seated! :icon_thumleft: Very cool that it's stamped!

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!

That’s a sweet find. The counter stamp adds a lot IMO. Very well done.
