I couldn't make it Saturday with fellow T-net members hunting the old ww1/2 dump. My phone was blown up by them with photographs of they were finding. I had go out but My wife said we had things to Sunday sooo, I got up super early and headed the street tearout, which they are almost done with, I planned to hunt for 2 hrs before wife woke up. So I got to the street tearout and started find just construction crew trash and iron nails, then got a 24/25 signal and dug and I could see a piece of iron in the hole , ohh man and then checked the dirt pile and bang , 1841 seated half or regular dime my oldest US. SILVER coin. The obverse is toasted. 20190210_080039.webp20190210_073704.webp20190210_073725.webp20190210_074604.webp20190210_073822.webp20190210_085515.webp20190210_090432.webp

European colonization in New Mexico dates to the very late 1500s, and was in full effect by 1610 when Santa Fe was established. The Southwest has some of the earliest European settlements in all of America, the East Coast guys just happen to find lots of reales from the 1700s, which is still a full 100-200 years newer than the early New Mexico history. I love looking at the bits and pieces posted by our New Mexico members as some neat artifacts and Spanish stuff will sometimes show up.

Congrats on your Seated coin. I know what it is like to have people sending you pictures of legendary hunts while you are doing family stuff. Family is important, but damn it can be gut wrenching.

All went well, happy you, happy wife, and based on the photo of the tearout you saved a seated from being buried til eternity, congratulations on all

Nice seated! Congrats! :icon_thumleft: Looks like everyone is finding seated coins lately!

That's a great find! :icon_thumright: Can't wait for the street and sidewalk tear outs scheduled for the older part of my city.

Nice job tearing that out lol Thise srent easy to find good job

Congrats on the find, but, you do know, you really ruined my day today, I found 2 wheats :)

Dude! Congrats man. That's an old coin bro! I'd say it was dropped by US troops right after New Mexico Territory was taken from Mexico by the US. Pretty sure that was around 1847. :headbang:
