I don't think many detectorists in my area are on this site. There were a number of views to yesterdays posting but no contacts. I'll continue to post my observations in the hope that more locals will join in and also give the more serious visitor some real time information. I am in no means an authority on Beach Detecting, but living here and going out about 5-6 times monthly, I do meet alot of people with stories on the area.
Yesterday, on my way to Ambersands, I stopped at Bonsteele Park; the walkway is boarded across, but that didn't stop fishermen, beachgoers or detectorists from safely accessing the beach. I was there about 230 PM. I met a couple, Steve and Becky coming off the beach; another example of local dectectorists willing to share their stories. There were about 5 people detecting on the beach and during the half hour that I was talking to Steve & Becky about 4 more showed up in the parking area. Probably due to the recent articles on Spanish Coins being found on the Treasure Coast.
I headed down to Ambersands and worked the beach between the Anchor and the Cabin Wrecks......One thing that I did notice is that there are obvious dig holes in the dune walls..some of them pretty deep. I hope the finds, if any, are worth the risks being taken by such noticeable excavations in a sensitive area. I don't know if filling these digs in would be of any benefit but it certainly wouldn't hurt appearance wise. We don't need any more legal problems on the beach.
Today, around 1230 / 100 PM, I'm heading down to Pines Wreck area. There is a gravel parking area on the east side of A1A just 0.7 miles south of the south end of the Sebastian Inlet bridge. A pathway leads to the beach, where a 55 gallon drum stands at the edge of the sand berm for trash deposits. Directly in front of this drum, at the water's edge, is where coins and artifacts have been uncovered in past years. The information contained in this last paragraph is from "Shipwrecks Near Wabasso Beach" and I've included it withiut their permission.
Again, if anyone is interested in meeting up to do some detecting, please contact me.
