Hi everyone. I returned to a city park I stumbled on driving around yesterday. Found a decent amount of clad in the tot lot yesterday. I did some research at home last night, and found out the park dates from the depression (probably a wpa project, as are many of the parks in my area...). I returned today to try my luck in the actual park. After digging lots of clad (as usual), I stumbled on a "hot spot" that yielded 6 wheaties all within 3 feet of each other. I'm thinking either a large pocket spill or a '50s era kids penny toss. At any rate, the 6 I found is one shy of my all time md ing 1 day wheatie record of 7 (set waaay back on Labor day weekend). The years are '52, '52D, '53D, '55D, '56D, '57D. It's a good thing the '55D wasn't a double die, as I nicked the reverse with my lesche :P. Also, the '57D fought a valiant (but losing) battle with a mower blade. Oh well; it's still 6 wheaties. I'll take 'em. Also dug a '96 Canadian cent....that's like my 30th Canadian cent dug this year....what's up w/ that
As for the clad, it totaled $6.66 (too bad Halloween was Sunday, no?). Coin breakdown: 14 quarters, 22 dimes, 11 nickels, and 41 cents (31 copper and 10 zinc), for a total (excluding the wheaties and Canadian) of 88 dug coins today. Whew!! Pics below. Enjoy!! I'll be back at it tomorrow, headed to a teens era city park. If anyone wants to hunt w/ me tomorrow, or over the weekend, just pm me. Thanks!!
