hey yall got a question im sure has been ask a million times. i picked up a vx3 for a good price and im happy has can be it came with the 6x10 now lookin for second coil ive been read about whites dd10 and the sefs any thing yall know would be mighty appreciated im using in parks old old school yards and soon some very old home places this place is like a island no ones hunting it but me. or yalls wisdom might say something else thanks again .

The D2 coil is what I use 95% of the time, I go to parks thats been pounded since the 70's and listen for only the really deep targets to bypass the clad and still pull silver. Most people won't even detect these anymore but with the D2 coil it gets as deep as the super 12 coil and separates pretty good for being a good size coil, I can get dimes at 10"+ and have even got some at 12". If I'm detecting a park thats been hammered in the past I'll set my disc. at 6 to bypass most of the trash and run +2 gain, then listen for those really deep targets so I'm not wasting time digging clad. HH

Wingmaster I suppose you are detecting with a mxt from the description of your settings.
I think it all depends on your hunting areas. I have the 10x6 and its a super coil, don't think the d2 will give much of a difference. Maybe a small coil for the trashy areas? I have a 5.3 and it's very accurate. Now it's small and slow.

There's a big depth difference between the D2 and the 6x10, of course the 6x10 will be better in trashy area's but there are places I detect that the silver is way too deep for the 6x10 to pick up. If looking for good depth the D2 is the way to go as your not going to get dimes at 10"+ with the 6x10. HH

Boy yall this place is like a big book of knowledge im real happy with 6x10 but i do now you cant find it all with one coil i was sold on whites but heard good stuff on sefs to plus price diffrece but if in the long run its better to spend a little more for quality and performance sounds like winner winner chicken dinner i have found silver with 6x10 just got thinking whats deeper

i have the d2 coil on my vx3. for my area it is a lot better than the 950 coil. i do like the 950 coil for the beach and that seems to be the norm from all the reading i have done on different forums. good luck.

All right yall bought d2 should be here in a week only bad thing is i did something dumb and got into a ebay war for yall on heart meds sit down now how bad is 170 dollars shipped dear gosh i just heard mr fox kill over o well you live and learn good thing about detecting its one the few things you can do thats pays it back thanks yall.

It's a great coil for depth for sure, two years ago whites had that coil for $100.00 off on the holiday sale. They didn't offer that deal last holiday sale but you never know what they will offer this year, others wanting that coil might wait for the holiday sale since its not to far off. HH

So they had it for 150 or 100 either way dont fell to bad now to getter dug!! But boy the wife aint never gonna let me quit diggin to put it back in the pot

Hey Dirty Job,

I have the D2 coil that came with my V3i and it is a very powerful coil however it picks up EVERYTHING! :) If I'm in a trashy area I have to use a different coil. I bought the 4x6 DD shooter coil which is a great little coil for parks and trashy areas but it just does not have enough depth. I get 6" at best which is actually enough for most coins. I'm now looking to get a 5.3" coil in hopes that I can get more depth and still be able to seperate the trashy areas good. Keep in mind the D2 is a different beast altogether. The older 950 coil essentially detects in a Cone-Like pattern. Meaning as it detects into the ground it picks up everything in the area from the out ring of the coil down to a point under the ground. The term for this is concentric. The D2 coil detects straight down from the outer edge of the coil into the earth like a big cylinder. Straight down from the outer ring of the coil to whatever depth the coil goes down. So you pick up everything that is underneath the coil and I mean everything. That's why it's a bit more challenging to pinpoint with the D2. It's hard to explain without pictures but I hope that helps - Basically the 950 - detects like and Ice Cream Cone into the ground, the D2 - Like a big can of beer : ) Good Luck!

I can get excellent depth on the V3i with the 6X10 coil, but have to crank up the sensitivity very high. That coil runs way deeper on the V3i than my other machines. The 10DD is a great coil and I think it separates extremely well for it's size, and it goes deep. Unfortunately I can't usually run the 10DD as hot because it is an EMI magnet. I think the DD coils run more in a "line" pattern from the front of the coil to the rear, like this: [] That is why the DD coils do better in mineralized soil than concentric coils - there is not as much footprint hitting the ground to be affected as much by mineralization. Also that is why they separate better than concentric coils - they get between multiple targets better. I also have a 10X12 SEF and that is comparable to the 10DD. It also is sensitive to EMI, and it goes deep while separating extremely well for it's size. I would recommend either 10DD or 10X12SEF as a next coil to compliment your 6X10.

I never use the 6x10 on my V3i cause it's not a nulled coil. I only use the D2 and the 4x6shooter for trashy area's. It was my experience with my MXT that the 6x10 won't get near the depth of the D2 and the 12" concentric coil will give just a tad more depth than the D2. Before I bought my V3i I was only using the D2 & 4x6 on my MXT cause the D2 got the depth and the 4x6 was great for the trash. The only reason that I would ever use the 6x10 was for the woods cause usually coins don't sink as fast in the woods and it didn't get caught on twigs and stuff as easy as the D2. The only other Whites coil that I would like to have for my V3i would be the 9 1/2" concentric which would be fantastic for the bad EMI areas. The biggest downfall of the D2 is it's an EMI magnet.
