I polished my blackened gold ring with a dremel, polishing cream and buffer pad. Found it last November in the swim area of a drained lake. It cleaned up very nice and revealed a 14K stamp on the inside loop, it?s actually a 14 stamp without the K. There is also a hallmark that looks like a U but the ring has some wear on it and I can?t make out anymore detail. Tried to get a pic of the hallmarks but my old digital camera can?t focus that close. The stone is probably glass as it is scuffed and has some pits, I don?t think a diamond would do that or would it scuff in the sand? One side has a few nicks on the edges probably from being smashed into sand. I got some polishing cream into the stone area that?s hard to clean out but I have a jewelry cleaner, so called sonic but it vibrates, should I give it a bath in the vibration cleaner with some solvent (jewelry solvent cleaner) to clean out the fine areas? This is my second gold find in 15 years hunting and I?m happy it?s a 14K. Wifey claimed it and I?ll gladly fill her fingers with gold rings as long as I can get out hunting for them, LOL! HH, Mike
After cleaning the ring, needs a little more clean up.

Before cleaning the ring, bad pic but you can see the black build up.
