Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
My wife asked me what I wanted for fathers day...so I said "Honey, I don't need a gift, but I would love to go metal detecting for the day. :hello2: " She said ok and so that was that! I went out to the new spot I've been hitting lately, got out detecting around 6:45. I tried a new field they just cut for hay. Didn't turn up TOO much in that field, I got 2 flat buttons...what small cuff with a pretty nice design. I believe them to be early 1800's. I also found two 3 ringers and 2 bullets I've never found before, I believe they are a Smith carbine(according to Beau(aquachigger)) which was pretty cool. Found a tiny buckle in the field as well, prob early 1800's as well. I left that field to try the honey hole field where I was finding a lot of CW stuff along with the 1731 KG II I found a couple weeks ago. Well I wasn't finding anything in the bottom section of the field where I had found stuff previously, so I worked my way up to a section where I first hit on my first hunt here. I started to find bullets right away along with some camp lead. All 3 ringers and one spencer. I worked my way down to where my cousin found his breast plate there last time. I went a straight line to the left of that. At about 150 feet over I found a shotgun shell...10 inches away I get another shotgun shell signal/nickel...wasn't gonna dig it, thought it was gonna be another shotgun shell, but I figured I'd be stupid NOT to dig it considering how good it was. Well down about 10 inches was the 1901 V nickel. DIG EVERYTHING!! lol Well that got me to gridding this area out. Not even 10 minutes go by and I get a banging signal and tone. I dig a nice big plug and nope...still in the hole. Find it with the pro pointer at the bottom of the hole and took my lesche shovel and revealed the lead backing to what I KNEW was a box plate. This is my second US box plate this year and my third plate for the year!!! I never thought I would even find ONE plate in my life time and now I've found 3. It's true what they say...find your first and the rest will come! It was a great day ended with a nice dinner with my family...the most important of all. Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Dang, nice site! Perhaps you can impress on your wife how rare/valuable your finds are from that site and she will tell you to go back and hunt it some more.

Awesome recoveries. :hello2: I agree with what you said at the end of your post... sometimes certain finds are reluctant to pop up for some of us and then BOOM you find one and the flood gates open. I had that happen to me with silver half dollars this year.... never found one in the past and now I've found 3 in a little more than a month.

Yeah, Quindy. They sure are. I dug the .50 cal Smith carbine...got another signal about the same...and it was a memorial cent. You gotta love that, right? LOL HH

You're having a really great year Matt. Two US plates in one season is awesome. I just found my first last year after many years of hunting. Hope you can keep pumping them out.

Wow! That's a Nice pile of relics Matt!!! Congrats on your second US Plate.

Thanks, Bill. Me too. You've had your fair share of other amazing finds, though. Can't wait to see what you pull out when the crops are done.

I've found a lot of CW relics in my time, but never a buckle or plate! I'm jealous. Great work and keep us posted . . .

Three plates in one year, you should change your name to "Buckleboy." I used to dig 1-3 every year in Kentucky, but haven't gotten one down here in Louisiana yet! :( When I do, they'll probably come up in pieces from the plow. :D

Those are some top notch finds. Congrats!

Thank you. It will be BuckleBoy Jr.
