I got a chance to hit the water again with the ATPro. I spent 3.5 hours in a local park swimming area. Again not a lot of people are going to the parks so the targets were few and far between. I did find some foil, a bottle cap and such, 3 coins with a face value of $.31, a can tab, some sinkers, 2 earring backs, a small piece of chain, 3 earrings, a ring and 2 of those weird whatzits.
I have found these before and still don’t have a clue as to what they are. Any help would be appreciated.
One of the earrings is silver and has small czs in it. The ring is a unique design and is silver as well. So 2 more silvers for the pile. Not a great hunt, but silver makes everything better doesn’t it?
As always the scout camp keeps giving and one of the best things about this hobby is you never know what will come out of the ground next. I managed to get out to camp 3 times recently with the CZ21, digging all the mid and high tones and cleaning up. I always find foil, tabs, bits of melted aluminum from campfires, zippers and pulls, grommets and other assorted bits of metal lost by the scouts and leaders.
Day one I found 137 coins with a face value of d$13.87, 81 camp tent pegs, a stainless spoon, a dead pocket knife,an old Curtis key, fishing sinkers, a broken order of the arrow slide, 2 regular neckerchief slides, a belt knife holder, some bullets including 2 shotgun slugs and a modern round ball, and 2 rope tensioners.
The OA neckerchief slide is missing the back loop and is from a lodge that existed from 1967 to 1992.
Day two I found 131 coins with a face value of $11.93, 56 camp tent pegs, both part of a broken spoon, fishing sinkers, rope tensioners, the end of a bolo tie, the brass end of the old style scout belt, 3 more bullets and a fishing lure.
Day three I found 143 coins with a face value of $13.71, 69 camp tent pegs, a bent fork, a dead pocket knife, an old canning jar lid liner, some sinkers, a belt clip for a knife, a blank military cartridge (RA 70 with a NATO emblem), a modified stainless knife, 2 bullets, a bolo tie end, a scout oath token, an IHP and a squashed penny.
The token has the scout oath on the back and is kind of a cool find. I’ve never seen this one before.
Indian head pennies don’t turn up too often round here. This is only the second one from this camp and I have dug thousands of coins out of here. It is more evidence of the original farm and was found in the area where the farmhouse was located. It is an 1895 in pretty rough shape. I will try and clean it up some, but I don’t think it will get much better. The acid in the soil really eats up the zincs and it can be tough on the copper pennies as well. I have a few wheat pennies from here that I tumbled to clean and they look like someone chewed on them they are so badly pitted. I’m just happy I got a date off this one.
That brings me to the end of my second month of the detecting year and another good one for money. In May I got $164.07, in June I did even better thanks to the $30 I found in the water for a total of $202.75. This could well be my best money year ever with only 2 months down I have $366.82 and that is almost half of what I usually dig in a year.
So plenty of gas money, lots of pegs back to the camp, a nice variety of finds, good social distance fresh air, some silver and a nice old IHP. Who could ask for more? Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.
