Over the last month In looking for a metal detector..I have found that there are a lot of people that are in the business of buying up high end and mid range metal detectors...they surf the web looking for good deals, buying and then reselling them for a profit...there must be good money in doing that...people buy these metal detectors and can't figure out how to use them put them in the closet and then sell then just to get some of there money back...I know of about 3 or 4 with in 100 miles of where I live. Anyway to make a living or extra money is a good deal.

If you have the means do it !!

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

i was thinking about doing it too, but make sure you can get it real cheap so you can make a profit and still be able to give someone a good fair deal cause it's annoying when i see some joker on Ebay trying to sell a used detector for $10 cheaper than it would be to buy a brand new one with a warranty ! . I was thinking it would be more fun to buy a detector that you know is an excellent deal , to try out for a month or two and then sell it so you can buy a different one to try out and then sell that one to buy the next one. I want to do that like 20 or so times and finally decide on what was the best! I have a compadre but i want to try many of the Garretts and whites "there's a guy on craigslist right now selling a White's V3i metal detector for $750 in excellent condition!" but i will have to work my way up to that... I can't wait

Been there and done it!

Good idea, but you need to know what you are buying…..and consider the increasing number of chinese imitations out now……...

i think all those Md shows, that flooded the digi waves awhile back, caused the flood of
like new detectors to hit the market, and a few saw the opportunity make a few $$
good for them, i sold 2 of my 90s model Md, to make a few $$, bc folks looking for
cheap Md, when the Md shows were up, better than it sitting in a closet doing nothing

I just picked up a Explorer se...so I,ll be selling my Whites Classic 3 sl with the Mr Bill modes to help with the cost of having that Explorer and the x-t 705...maybe I,ll give it to my Dad for fathers day...or help with paying for a lawyer because the wife thinks I have got to much money in these things....:)

yep the guy I got the Explorer from had 3 ctx 3030,s , 4 other explorers, 2 etrac,s 2 whites mx5, 2 or 3 xp,s ....he said at some point he would end up selling them...

If you can get a great deal on a decent brand and model of metal detector, sometimes it is worth the investment. You must do some research and know what the metal detectors are going for on eBay as it is probably the best market to make a few bucks on the investment. Of course after checking the metal detectors out and if it works as or better than they should, I get them home and check them over really, really good. I may sit on them for awhile and even use them from time to time. I try to get to know the metal detector, what it might need in cleaning up, appearance and minor repairs and take care of those as I can. This might mean purchasing a cheap or fairly cheap accessory that will help it sell better but most often, they need very little other than a really good cleaning. When I am ready, I will list them on eBay with a "Buy It Now" price that is a higher but not significantly higher than the same brand and model with similar accessories have sold for and also accept Offers on them. Many times you will receive ridiculously low offers which you will decline but if an offer is received that is realistic, then I will either accept the offer or make a counter-offer. Although I buy items from individuals who advertised them on Craigslist, I seldom advertise items on Craigslist as most often this is a waste of my time. There are too many cheapskates like me that search Craigslist for all kinds of items and most make offers on the items that barter on them getting an A$$ whooping, if you know what I mean. I am always courteous and respectful of the person and their' items and usually ask what is the least they will take for them as I really don't like making offers on another person's items. However, if they won't give a bottom dollar price, I will make an offer that may be really cheap for the item or items but I never make an offer that makes them mad. I have found that if you make a Seller mad with a ridiculously low offer, then you have lost any chance of purchasing the item or items. Case in point! I have Bronze and Mixed-Media Sculptures by a well known Artist of Native American Indians that I advertised on Craigslist for a time. Most of the larger one's are valued at $1,200 to $1,500 a piece. I received one offer of $400 each from one gentleman and I politely declined the offer. However, a few weeks later, I received an offer of $100 each from another gentleman and I sternly told him what he could do with that offer. I believe you know where that is!LOL!!

alot of the buyers of the used machines are reselling them in the mining districts of the congo and elsewhere in the world.they get top dollar for them, often more than new...bird in the hand syndrome.

cheers

Yeah i can't wait to do that myself, it would be interesting to see how one detector finds rings when a different one finds the silver coins. I like my compadre but i am bored with it, even changed my discriminator knob to a 10 turn potentiometer, which really seems to help space gold rings further away from foil and nickles so i can distinguish them apart much easier. what detector did you end up liking the best and why ?

A lot of times you can watch various forums and EBay to find ok deals. Occasionally I see very good deals but that is rare. In doing this you can try machines out for several weeks and usually not lose much money, if any, but you should have enough knowledge about the equipment to know if it working correctly and what to look for in sales ads etc. As for trying to buy and resale for profit, I'll leave that up to dealers who have overhead ie. brick/mortar, advertising, etc. Trying to do it on a small scale, dealing with today's general public will probably be more headache than it's worth IMO.
