I've purchased 3 and sold one. All good deals from CL
I bought and sold my Ace 250, got more than what I paid for it originally.
I bought my AT Pro for less than the going price... Still under warranty. Came with a Lesche digger.
I got my Sov XS and RTG alum/ss scoop in a trade + cash for 2 guitars. (Meaning I got $300 plus Sov and scoop). I happen to be selling two guitars the guy with the Sov and scoop was looking for. That was a very good deal for me.

That being said, I've bought and sold many, many guitars on CL. All decent to good deals in my favor.

So yes, You can do well on CL as long as you know what your buying and negotiate well. Just be sure to meet up in a well lit, public place... And always be prepared to walk away from the deal if it isn't in your favor.

Purchased one and it was a good deal.

I bought a Whites DFX for $100.00 at a yard sale and ended up selling it for $250.00 on CL. I should have held out for waited for what I was asking $400.00 because I had a couple more offers before I deleted the post. I sold it to a local kid, the transaction went smooth.

I have a new Fender Deluxe Reverb that I want to sell but was considering CL instead of eBay (because of all the hassles and cost) and was wondering of how safe it is to have buyers come to the house?

Thanks for the responses.
I hear all the bad stories, but haven't had a single problem.
I've had one person to my home for a purchase. It went well. He was here for quite awhile testing coins, jewelry, etc. He gave full asking price too. As he was a newbie, I've also taken him on a few digs.
All said, I wouldn't recommend having strangers to your home. Ya never know...
Peace ✌

Hello Everyone,

I would strongly advise against having strangers over your house to review or pick-up items. It is not just the initial visit you have to worry about, but any return visits…if you know what I mean!

Regards,

ALWAYS meet at a neutral site.

I agree with Prof E and Jason.
In my lone home visit, I tt the purchaser many times before inviting him. Not that phone conversations can reveal a persons intent. The conversations we had revealed purchaser was and is very upstanding.
I also dabble in precious metals. This is a very different situation.
Peace ✌

Meet up at a neutral site. If the buyer demands on hearing it, meet up at a local Guitar Center or Sam ash.

Also look into Reverb.com. Similar to eBay, but much lower fees and auctions are not necessary, but can be done if wanted. I sold a guitar through there too.

I would not let any strangers or over half the people I know come by, I always say lets meet in a well lit and open area that has camera's, I've read about too many people getting robbed around this area, the latest one is where someone will run ad on CL selling an IPhone 5s or a 6 for a good deal and when the person shows up to buy it they get robbed.

Yes in Ohio also lot of bad stories about Craigs list…. Better to be safe than sorry to make a few bucks….So i just use Ebay , Amazon .. And local Flea mkt.'s …. I don't need money that bad..

I have purchased most of my' metal detectors (current and past) on Craigslist and got them all at great deals. I have sold only a few on Craigslist but the majority of the one's I sold, I put them on eBay and did really well on them. Never let anyone come to your' home, nor do I meet at their's. I meet outside at local Markets or fast food establishments with lots of visibility and lots of folks. If a sit down is needed to examine items such as coins...jewelry or watches, I usually schedule them at Pizza Hut for the all you can eat Lunch Buffet and may pick up the tab but at other times, we go deuce on the meal. There are a lot of prying eyes and some inquiries during these meetings but it is generally safe and every now and then, you actually make other contacts for future purchases or sales. One thing I try not to do, is to resell an item on Craigslist that I purchased on Craigslist at a great deal and especially so, if I have not had it very long. Too many people may have seen the item on Craigslist previously and it can have negative effects if the word gets around. If I have held onto an item or items for years, then I may or may not advertise it/them on Craiglist but most often, it/they will go on eBay.
