selling off treasure?

I wished it was my problem, but I read about big treasure ship finds, millions in gold and silver coins.... how do they convert treasure into cash, how do they spend it?
Is it sold to the Government, big coin dealers?? Sometimes the amount of treasure is mind boggling, like the dog chasing the car, now that I got it what can I do with it.

If I had a large find, I am sure I would figure it out, but since I don't, I just wonder how they lucky ones do it.

I guess they would just sell it! Some might belong to investors, some of it might get auctioned, etc...

I'm just guessing, I've never found a treasure! If I did? Depending on what it was, there are a lot of options. I'm sure the gov. gets it's share too!

A lot of it might depend on how fast you want the cash too!
