I sent my Minelab Excalibur in for service to the Minelab repair center on July 24, and according to Minelab and UPS I should be getting it back today, September 2.
That's a six week turn-around.
I sent my White's Beachhunter 300 in for service to Whites on August 21, and got it back today.
That's less than two weeks turn-around, and no charge for the repairs.
I tested the Whites Beachhunter and they fixed the problem with the cable, replaced the headset foam, and included a few coins pasted on the servicing form (which I used for testing).
I'm very impressed with the quality of service and quick turn-around from Whites.
I haven't yet received the Minelab Excalibur back yet (hopefully it will get here today), and hopefully they will have fixed the problem.
I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
