Settings vs Programs

Are the programs just preset settings?

ie: Can I, say, change all the settings in Park1 to for it to become Field 2?
Or are the settings tweaks to secret-sauce programs?

(If that makes sense)

no u wouldn't be able to do that. You can change some settings with the 600, and even more with the 800, but there are built-in functions with each program you can't change.

OK thanks. So there isn't, even with a user profile, to make a full custom program, just a tweaked built-in version.

Yes

You need to look at each search profile (Park 1, Park 2, Field 1, etc.) as a separate detector - the characteristics of that detector are determined by the set Multi IQ multi frequency weighting and signal processing. Anything the user can adjust will not make Park 1 act like Park 2 because that is determined by the underlying Multi IQ profile dedicated to that search profile. Although there is a caveat and I will discuss it later, below.

So what makes Park 1 a high conductive coins program is the underlying Multi IQ profile which is unique to Park 1 - All the adjustable user settings> Noise Cancel Channel Setting, Ground Phase Setting, Discrimination, Tones, Threshold, Recovery Speed, and Iron Bias have defaults associated with that Multi IQ profile but are adjustable within the allowable range for that profile. If you change a user setting, then it will automatically stick (even after shutdown) until you change them again or factory reset that search. So you can customize Park 1 somewhat, but no combination of those settings will make Park 1 behave like Park 2 or any other profile.

The user profile slot on the 800 allows you to store a default or customized version of any search profile for quick recovery so you can switch from Park 1 immediately to Gold 1 and back at the press of a button without having to cycle through all the other intervening modes. Or you can store another custom version of your favorite Search Profile mode in the slot so you can have, for example, Park 1 default settings save in the user profile slot while using a different recovery speed on the "main" version of Park 1.

Some user settings affect all or most modes and are called universal settings, they include master volume, sensitivity, threshold, and backlight level (800 only). Also, the horseshoe button which cuts out all discrimination and notch settings and the pinpointer work the same regardless of mode.

Finally, single frequency, is the "gotcha" setting. Beach modes do not allow single frequency. If you have the 800, Gold or Prospecting modes are a completely different animal than the other search profiles because it does not use tone ID but instead VCO pitch audio and you can only set single frequencies of either 20 or 40 khz.

But the Park 1/Park 2/Field 1/Field 2 modes lose their unique Multi IQ personality profiles once you go to single frequency regardless of which single frequency you go to (5, 10, 15, 20 (800 only), and 40 (800 only)) because multi IQ (and Iron Bias) is dependent on multifrequency mode. So the only difference remaining between each of the modes once you go to single frequency are the individual user settings for Noise Cancel, Ground Balance, Disc, Tone, and Recovery speed.

Thanks vferrari! Certainly more than I asked for (meant that as a good thing) Also answers my next Q, user profile is a single slot, not one for each program/mode.

Finally took my 800 out Tuesday. Only swung for a fat hour at a park. (PP battery started to die off) Does have a bit more of a learning curve then my Ace 350.
