I am posting a few pictures of finds from the last few weeks. I was wondering if all of you could give your opinion or share any info. about them.
1) a mens bracelet stamped 14K Italy that is very tarnished. I know gold doesn't corrode but the soil I found it in just about "ate" a zinc penny right next to it (it was only half there). Some of the soil here in SoCal really damages silver, I know. When I scrubbed the bracelet in hot peroxide, it appears to be gold colored under the corrosion (as the picture hints at). The picture is a pretty good representation of its color. One more thing-the main part of the bracelet (not the chain) has corrosion that looks like copper corrosion and the metal on that part looks like copper. The chain looks more like gold which is where the stamp is located. Is it possible to have a chain of gold with a copper bracelet? Does any other metal have a 14K stamped on it other than gold?
2) a bullet I found in a park. I don't know much about bullets/guns. What type is it and is there a safe way to dispose of unused bullets? What would a bullet like this be used for, typically?
3) a quarter I found on the beach near Ventura, CA. It looks normal but something didn't feel right and it sounded differently than other quarters when it hit against other coins. I looked at it more closely and realized it is a quarter stamped on a dime planchet (it is just a bit thinner than a normal quarter.) Unfortunately, it is all pock-marked from the saltwater and sand so it is probably worthless.
4) a Danny Thomas medal which rang up as a quarter (but is actually about the size of a dollar coin) made from some "cheap" metal and plated gold color. I found it at the swingset on the beach at the Ventura Pier.
I'd appreciate any and all comments.
Thanks,
Turtleman
