malfaro, my cousin has a web site and the name is The Woven Seat for she is a professional chair caining tech. E-mail her at her site and she more than likely can help you. vanzutphen

You should definitely talk to an expert, to see if it is "shaker-style" or the real deal. I've seen the real deals before, and I have never seen that exact style back, but, I'm not even close to an expert. An expert is also going to want to see the bottom, and how the stiles are put together. Good Luck!

Unlikely Shaker...Is there any iron(screws, bolts, etc.)on table? Shakers used only joints, dovetail, etc. NO nails.Your in NY there is a huge Shaker community in NY.How about a pick of bottom of chair.99.9% of Shaker furniture was numbered,1,2,3,etc.Shaker chairs&other items can easily be searched. They MAY have used tacks in thier box's...Good luck!!!

just so you know...that style chair was made on every farm in every state and around the world too. I even have one that came across the plains via wagon...very common "primitive" and a nice thing to have too.
