hello again,

i went out today to the park where i found my 24K ring last tuesday. the hunt started out slowly, finding only two wheats in a couple of hours. i moved to another part of the park, to an area where i have found early wheats and a barber dime a few months back. i began swinging the explorer slowly, listening for any sort of high 'peep'. i heard a signal that sounded good enough to stop me in my tracks, but upon further inspection all i heard was iron. i heard what sounded like a good signal, but it was overpowered by the super-high iron tone. the ID was iron all the way. i decided to dig the iron out...turned out to be a screw at a couple of inches. when i rechecked the area i heard a great signal three inches from where the screw was. there was still some iron very near, but getting that screw out of the way enabled me to hear the good signal. i dug down and about four inches on the side of the hole my probe screamed at me. i dug a bit more dirt out and felt my digger hit something. i cringed! i looked down and saw silver. it was angled at 45 degrees in the side of the hole. i saw a face peeking out at me. i saw only the eyes and nose and thought,"merc?" popped it out and it was much bigger than a merc...it was a 1911s Barber Quarter!!! this baby is sharp! and super-clean. i did, however, nick it on the chin. darn! what you see in the pics is how it came out of the ground. this is the cleanest BQ i've ever found. i've found 6 or 7 in my life and they have all been messed up somehow. they've been either bent, black or both. this one looks brand new!

after i stopped staring at the coin i got back to detecting but only managed one other wheat- a '37 from the same area.

enjoy the pics!

HH,

Mike

Nice find

Very nice find!!!. I guess I need to dig up iron more often to get it out of the way.

Very sharp Barber Quarter, Mike! That's a great find for that heavily hunted park. You're on a roll there. You found that coin because you dug out the iron, while every other md'er just passed on it.

Hope to see you next week!!

Super! I like Barbers a lot, but I *really* like the Reverse of the quarters.

Outstanding coin, and you didn't deck it big-time, just a bit of a scrape.

That'd be a fun one to pull out of the ground!

Thats one clean looking coin! Congrats

WOW! That is in really good condition! Congratulations on the spectacular find!
