She didn't steal my heart but my...........
From the land of the Bluenose.....there was no way this was going to work. Otto was just not built for it but Navy Davy came up with a solution as he folded himself in half, lowered his head to his chest and bent his knees so that they were almost touching the top of his head. In this fetal position he was able to enter Otto. Mind you I would have taken the easier route......a can opener to the roof! Think I know now why Navy Davy likes to take his vehicle.
After passing Tim's we got our fix at Robin's which was not quite so busy and motored down the old highway through the small communities of Boutlier's Point, Black Point, Queensland and my home town of Hubbards which brought back fond memories of summer days spent on the beach with the evenings attending religion classes on the ball fields.
Our destination was Bayswater Beach with it's sand dunes, stunning view, fridget waters and Flight #111 that crashed offshore and the hope of finding a few buried goodies! Along the winding roads we just yaked and enjoyed the drive
taking in the small fishing villages and bays
till we arrived at the wind swept beach.
We decided to tackle the small picnic area on the other side of the road as it afforded us some protection from the blowing sand but soon gave up hunting this space as it was pretty stingy. The beach proper turned out to be the same and after a few coins and the wind pushing us south we mounted Otto and headed further down the coast to an island that we had hunted several times in the past month. Had to rein in Otto a few times as the tail wind made us go a tad too quick for this bouy's liking.
The hunt itself here was a rather uneventful affair as our past sorties had descimated the coin population. ND did manage a few "out of the ordinary" finds in the form of a horse with rider piece from a Monopoly game and a small dinkie of a German Messerschmitt ME109 or Focke-Wolf FW 109 which confirmed what I thought................Dave was becoming one with his Ace 250.
The darkening sky reminded us that another day of digging was drawing to a close so we meandered back towards Otto. It was at this point that I first laid eyes on her as I was kneeling down digging a target. The last few rays of sunlight highlighter her golden brown hair and showed the mischevious twinkle in her eye. I judged her to be in her middle years but her great shape was still evident that she worked out regularly. I was immediately smitten with her and she was coming towards me probably to see what I was doing just as I took my gloves off to examine what I had unearthed. She then gracefully lowered herself next to me and ................put my glove in her mouth and with a dash of pure joy began running all over the field.
"Lucy! Give the man back his glove," I heard someone over my shoulder say. This didn't work and even ND with his animal magnetism had no effect on her. Finally after further coxing she relented rewarding me by laying my glove at my side whereas I rewarded her with a royal back scratch just above her tail as she shead enough hair that could without a doubt knit a good size throw.
Navy Davy's loot for the outing (above) while mine was a meager 70 coins @ $7.58 and a buckle.
Although finds were few I had to rate this outing as one of my most enjoyable ones of the year. Sometimes we concentrate too much on what we find and miss the simple joys of a day out breathing fresh air and enjoying the company of a good friend.
