Hey all, I found a shell casing today and the caliber I have never heard of before. 38-56 WCF....anyone ever heard of this? The casing is about the size and shape of a 30-30 but just a tad bigger in diameter.

The 38-56 Winchester was introduced in 1887. It made the transition into the smokeless powder era and was loaded until about 1936. Although advertised as a powerful big game number, it is little more then a deer or black bear cartridge. With maximum handloads, it might do OK for elk at short range.

Thank you, I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to guns and different calibers as my dad was a firearm fanatic...this is a new one for me.
