Here something cool my dad found when he was 10 years old. It’s believed to be a rare missipian shell jewelry piece the natives would’ve worn around their neck. It’s a rare find for sure. I still have it after several years since he gave it to me.

Thanks for the look...

Interesting...

very interesting relic, any idea about what year that was found, and where it was found?

Yes it was found in Kentucky in the Ohio river bottoms I believe it was found in 1981 my dad was ten when he found it.

It looks like it was a left handed welk shell from Florida or the gulf coast. Send a pic of the other side showing the opening. It was most likely traded up from down south. It is not a fresh water mollusk
Hi Newman man I gave it back to my dad and he has it I don’t have it anymore. Thanks for the information and outlook I will definitely tell him what you said!

Just my opinion and I’m not a shell expert but have seen some finished shell plummets. I think it’s a preform plummet you can see the groove on the stem end I believe they were going to remove the other end but never finished it. It’s a cool find cause I’ve never seen a preform of one

I don't think it's heavy enough for use as a plummet. The groove was made to cut the closed end off exposing the long center piece. It was then cut into sections and used as a tubular bead or smaller beads.
