Some very recent (and some not so recent) Shenandoah Valley farm finds. I didn't realize I had so many scattered throughout my office. Time to get a nice display case!

great relic finds!!!

Richard,
Those relics would look great in a display case.
What is that item with the rings in the bottom left? Horse décor?
Congrats,

Per Rob Langdon:

"The technical description for what you have is part of Brandoon Chain Swivel, (Brandoon is correct and not mis-spelled) but they are generically and more commonly referred to as fancy gag swivels.

They are off of a harness, and I think the misconception of them being identified as sword hangers originated with Lord's Encyclopedia, which we all know now is riddled with inaccuracies. I am not sure how far back they go, but my catalog of 1892 has them listed. I am sure they go back a bit further in time, at least to the mid 1800's.

The Brandoon's are much more scarce than other variations of the same thing, but they all served the same purpose."
