On the Tallahatchie River. Throwing Magnet. Pulled these up.

Okay, sorry

I had problems posting pictures. Forgive me, guys. I found this magnet fishing. My friend says it is a hub to a wheel. It was found on a ship wreck. I feel it might be some sort of bolt that might have connected boards together. I really want to know what you guys think. i can post up pictures of the nails and spikes I pulled up if necessary for context.

Yes, I'm old enough for that song reference. I posted a re-post with picks. Thanks for song selection, though. I don't blame you, that was funny!!

callicles,,,,, it might be something used to hold the boards together , but from my experience, square spikes were used to hold the boards together......If the ship is an ironclad , no telling what the piece could be ..... u may want to go on the Cairo down at Vicksburg and look around .....

Thanks. I don't know much about the Tallahatchie. Were Iron Clads on it? That would be cool though. I will dig in the history books and see. Thanks!

I don't know what part of the Tallahatchie u are on , but check out Fort Pemberton at Greenwood ....... they entered thru Yazoo Pass , Coldwater River and into the Tallahatchie ..... One of the ironclads was the De Kalb .... and I think the other was the Carondolet...

that is what's left of a big bolt, could be from a wooden boat, but more likely a dock piling or old wooden bridge. I have a whole one somewhere and if I can find it I'll post a pic...

Might be a good thing you didn't find ol Billy Joe.... I'd imagine he's in pretty rough shape by now.....

Brother Taylor said he saw a girl that looked a lot like you up on Choctaw Ridge.
And she and Billie Joe was throwing somethin' off the Tallahatchie Bridge.
I asked Brother Taylor what the thing they tossed in the water looked like.
He said best as he could recollect, it was about a nine inch big headed iron spike.

Thanks for the responses. I think I've got my posting problems resolved. Here is a group picture of what I found. I'm wondering if the rest of these are from the potential wreck. Does anyone have any idea what the piece of iron that looks like a portion of a lid is? Maybe it went to a piece of equipment? anyway, thanks!

Hey Bud, I think the last picture is part of an old coffee grinder. Sometime back I found part of one. Look at the lines on mine and yours, they are very similar. Mine is the cone and I think yours is the bowl.
What do you think?IMG_20161003_154359163.webpCleaning Before and After.webp

Your first picture looks like an engine valve.
Intake valve for a hemi. Just kidding about the hemi.

Hey Callicles, I found a picture of a wagon wheel hub in "Civil War Artifacts A Guide for the Historian". It looks very similar. I'm going to post it in a new thread because I don't know how to post it into this thread (if that's even possible).

Here is a photo from Howard Crouch's Book "Civil War Artifacts, A Guide for the Historian". Could yours be a wagon hub?

Thanks, Ripcon. I suppose mine could be. Is there any chance the picture you posted has measurements to see if it correlates to my item? All my items seem to come from some sort of a boat. Would my item be a rather small specimen for a hub? Thanks!

I'm not sure if the wagon hub is actually a wagon hub, but I have a couple. One is 4.0 and the other is 3.25 inches diameter.
