Hi,
I recently found three iron artifacts within 50yds of each other near the beach in Boca Raton, Florida. Each was encrusted in 2-3 inches of coral and dark black material which may also be coral but not sure.

The first piece (not pictured) was an iron spike about 7 inches in length that still had a thin iron washer around it, at first I thought it might be a sword. The iron was frayed at the end of it, so it may have been severed at some point.

The second piece looks to me like it could be a swivel from a cannon, but I would like to get some input as I'm sure someone here will know exactly what it is. This piece looks like it was severed.

The last piece looks like a nail, but interesting shape to it.

I'm curios as to what these pieces came from. I cannot find any record of a shipwreck here except for one well offshore.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm sure someone here can help you identify the objects. Sometimes it just takes time for the right person to see your post. Good job hunting and welcome to this forum from a new guy myself!

Anyway to show a common object for size reference...
The one item looks like a "deadeye" or anchor "head"/ring.

ARRC - no disrespect, but every time I see your icon, I think ... Peter Brady meets Mr. T. :occasion14:

Meant only as a light-hearted comment only.

ARRC, you were 12 in that picture. Was that when you were a cabin boy for Captain Jennings when he raided the 1715 wrecks? lol

Mr. T would definitely NOT "pity the fool" that wears that chain

and

"Peter" Brady was the son and was close to that age in 1980

Tom Brady deflates balls and cheats (advance apologies for derailing a thread)

All those shows were the highlight of my childhood, but you forgot one. Flipper ... that was the one that influenced me the most as it relates to my later years.

All the shows you mention were my favs as well.

To Pmaestrales - sorry man - you created a wild thread

I think we should all strive to be "that old"

That's what makes us old enough to tell the tales

The remake of "flipper" starring an eighteen year old Jessica Alba continues to influence me quite often, even to this day.

? really... they remade the show?

I found this picture online, and of all the items I've seen this most closely resembles the piece.

I don't know if your ID is correct, but coincidentally, a gun about that size was found on the beach at Boca a few years back...search this forum for a thread titled "speaking of cannons on beaches"....

I just read the thread, thank you for pointing it out. I found this less than a quarter mile from the arrow on that map. I will go back to the spot tomorrow and see what else I can find.

Another thread you might find interesting is called "going down to Boca Raton next week"...note the Lat. and Long. and cargo mentioned in the newspaper clipping....good luck !!

Yeah, as a short lived full season series as I recall, from the mid 90s...... Somebody gave it to me on DVD .

your pictures are great and the wreck is one I have been hunting since l958.I have found artifacts also and my material was part of a cannon carriage and deck pins. I meet some tourist that had found several gold coins in the same area and they sent all of them to Tallahassee for identification but the government keep them and didn't even thank the tourist. Your wreck should be 200 yards south of the public beach . the other wreck in Boca is north of the beach about a mile and is a British wreck around 1860. The best guess on the other Spanish wreck is 1621.
Keep looking especially after a beach cut. Good hunting.

Did you find this north of Red Reef Park near Gumbo Limbo?
