I was snorkeling with my boy the other day and he found something weird, he picked it up and it was a nail encrusted in a piece of burned wood. We started looking around and found quite a few pieces, iron spikes, bronze (or a mix of bronze) spikes, copper sheet and what we believe was a chainplate that we recovered. There were at least another two of these in the bottom. It is about 7 feet long and I believe they use to have a wooden block inside the loop with 3 wholes in them and were called deadeyes.

Any ideas as to what kind of boat?

Welcome to Treasure Net bronze spikes are from an older wreck

Nice finds id be taking a detector there

Copper sheeting might well mean it was a warship and not a merchant vessel.

I've found one deadeye in my life (in Lake Michigan) and the strap is very heavy (as one might expect it to be, as it supports the mast).

Nice find!

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

Get them soaking in fresh water!
