could be from old pier
most of the spikes/nails ive found from ships are bronze (dont rust)- and have a slight curve in them so they
dont wiggle out easily

Hi Guys,

Hello people, New to the Forum.
I recently found a Steel spike that was encrusted in a charcoal material on our local beach wedged between rocks. looks like an old Ship building spike but not sure. Any ideas ? Have attached a few images.
Con

Clean the end out looks like a suqare nut, could be a thread in there. Are you sure it,s steel looks to have a green tint in the image or is tht just the light?

Thanks people,
might try and dip it in some mild acid and see if it will cleanup. Might give some more clues.

I clean my iron relics with white vinegar. I soak submerge the item and then wire brush it every 24 hours. Once I am happy that it is free of heavy scabs I will soak it in baking soda and water for a day then regular water. I then brush it with Ospho and after it is dried for 24 hours I heat it and rub it with microcrystalline wax.
