Any suggestions for how to use color editing to bring out contrast detail to help identify markings?

I played about a bit with the image, but it might be better if you take some more pictures, from different angles.

Try editing the pic in black and white with a high contrast filter.

I have no idea yet. I'm still new to this. I found a very old shipwreck and am having a really hard time figuring it out. Crash courses in ship fastenings, preservation, electrolosis cleaning, ect are wearing me out.
