shoe buckle?

Hi, I hit a site that hasn't given up much lately for us and not long before giving up for the day I found this buckle, I think it's a shoe buckle but I don't know . Can you guys tell me for sure what it is and the age if possible? Thanks!

Yes, it was a nice decorative shoe buckle, most likely mid 1700s
