Shoe Buckle?

Hey all!
Went woods hunting today in a revolutionary war area here in New Jersey and pulled this buckle!
Would this be a shoe buckle or belt buckle?
Also wondering the date ranges these might have been used

Nice find. It's a mid to late 18th century shoe buckle. Getting them intact is very hard.
