Dug this buckle in a known 1700's site. But I am confused as to whether it is a shoe or a knee buckle. One reference states it is a variety of shoe buckle mfg. from late 1600's to 1720's. Another that it is a knee buckle.
Both state it is an anchor buckle.
Any help in identifying it would be appreciated.
