What is this ??

[marjam]

I found this on the riverbank close to my home yesterday. I thought it was a buckle of some type at first, but the shank on the back makes it being a buckle impossible. Any ideas?

After posting this, it appears to be a conway buckle. Not sure on the age of it though.
