I got out for my usual Sunday morning hunt yesterday to a field I received permission to detect a couple of weeks ago.
This field is scheduled to have home construction start on it sometime next year.
I found this field by researching my local 1878 Ontario Atlas and discovered there had been three buildings located here in the last quarter of the 19thc.

My first find was a British Nipple Button, followed by the crotal bell, which was deep at 14". The back of the button say's, 'London and Gilt'... I think.
It would have been nice to have found a coin or two, but considering this site is in plain view of a major road, I feel it has likely been hit before. :icon_scratch:

Thanks very much for looking and here's a big high five for you! :laughing7:
Dave

Nice nipple you got there...ok that just sounds wrong.

The bell is pretty cool, I bet there are some coins to be had there, good finds and good luck!

I have to ask.. How many inches down was the dog?

The button and bell cleaned up well Dave, it looks like the same bell that I got at the end last week.:)

Second nipple posted here in the last month or so. Pretty neat button! Great finds Dave.

That field looks ripe for detecting. No way you have gotten it all finding what you did. High five back! haha

Nice assortment of digs Dave
Thanks very much VMI! :hello:

Thanks for your post and for your thoughts here Cache... but that's not the first time I've had that type of compliment! :laughing7:
I gridded this field pretty good and I thought there should've been a coin here too, that's what makes me think it's been hit before.

The next field up had a home on it in 1878 as well, I'll be investigating that on as soon as the corn comes off.
Hope you're having a good year,
Dave

She was right on top of her favourite blanky when I found her and I didn't need the detector to locate her! :laughing7:

I noticed that too Jim and you're in a much older area of the province than I am.
I think it survived so well because it was a good 8" below the plow line.

Thanks for this Dave, I'll have to search it here because i could find little info on these online.

Thanks for your post Tnmountains.
I might have to give it another go later this fall, as we always say, "no site is ever hunted out". :laughing7:

Nice finds. I like finding those crotal bells.

Good old Bell,
Given the amount of land to cover I'm sure there is more, and a coin or two for you.
Actually that looks a lot like my last couple of hunts.

Sadly I forget your dogs' name (maybe Lucy (as a guess)) but my Bruce has been gone for nearly 14 months, and I still miss him, Glad you still have your friend.

Good Luck out there Dave, a Great Find is comming your way soon. (hopefully for me too, as the fall season gets going)

EDIT, I remember it's Lilly...at least I had the "L" right. haha.

Thanks for your post Rick, it's nice to hear from you again. :occasion14:
I might head back there again on Sunday morning, but today I have 3 other sites I'm working on.
As I know you can appreciate, with the crops now coming off the fields here in the east, it opens up a lot more opportunities.

I remember well the pick you sent me of Bruce riding in your boat... have you thought about adopting a rescue dog?

Hope you're having a great year for finds too Rick,
Dave

Nice hunt,, your finds cleaned up nicely.
Great picture of your puppy.

Great bell and button:occasion14: It sure cleaned up nice:thumbsup: When I found mine it was pretty deep too, but rang up strong and loud. Does it still have the ball inside?

Thanks for your post ATW!
My daughter calls our dog a barky Butt-head! :laughing7:

Thanks for your question creade. It did find up loud in the 71 - 72 range, I'll dig anything in a farm field that hits in a solid range.
The bell still has the pea it it too, it's always a bonus when a bell pops up undamaged!

Best of luck to you buddy,
Dave

Best of luck in your search for a crotal bell my friend, thankfully I live in a history rich part of the country here in Ontario.
With the majority of our first settlers coming from the England, Scotland, Ireland and British Loyalists from the US, we find a lot of British related relics. :hello2:
