Short Hunt 8/9/13 - Help Identifying Potential Military Cap Badge

Got out for two hours on early Friday evening to a 150+ year old Chicago park. Tried getting some more older nickels but only got 2 Jeffersons - 1939 and 1940. Also found 2 Indians 1896 and 1897. Most surprising find of the hunt is what might be a military hat badge. It has 3 holes which I assume are to sew it on to a hat or uniform. Can anyone identify it? It was about 7 inches deep.
