The plan to hit the thin wood between what we thought to be a Roman site was a success last Sunday. We confirmed the target as good & with the knowledge of today as well, we can attack the 2 fields in a more effective manner, after harvest. (saving us many hours of scouting).

This site is looking more like a small rural homestead started in the late Iron Age continuing into the Roman. We will not get as many coins & artefact's as the other Wood/field site but I'm predicting about 50-100 Bronzes, maybe a couple of Silver (this year alone).

Dad dug something we like to find (whilst digging lead), a huge 1st BC-1st AD pot rim (shell tempered ware), from a massive storage jar of about 3ft high by 1.5ft diameter. These are often associated with Iron Age (Celtic) activity but can span into the Romano-Celtic period - a nice transitional piece. So it opens up the possibility of early Roman coins & a possible Celtic find or two.

Only hunted for 2 hours (4 man hours) so happy enough with the 4 Roman Coins, & a circa 1500 Large Buckle.

Best find was my first find of the day & is an Album coin I need: ;D

AD270 Claudius II Gothicus AE Antoninianus. [DIVO C]LAVDIO, radiate head right / [CONSECRA]TIO, eagle standing facing with head right. Minted Rome RIC 266

I agree it adds to the character, the only time its an issue, is when they don't have enough legend to be IDable :icon_thumright:

For you only hours in the field out and relaxing, but for hunters t.net their findings are very interesting  ...... I do not fall into the routine when I'm hunting in a field, I meditate on the important things in life (for example, if the Colchester United Football Club won the Champions League or not ::) ;D ) and after four or six hours, I collect old coins and show them on the Internet, it is important to keep in touch with nature and talk online with someone who has your same hobby, ¿ digging holes in the manure to retrieve coins ??? ;D ? you know that just the other day I found a one treasure on my ass ...... . I to sit for eating a pork mummy "you know that everything we eat here :laughing7: ?" and the same place there was a German Jeton (Spiel Marke) 19th century that , lost in field for over a hundred years.!! .....just at that place! ::)
Greetings!
