Today after work I hunted for an hour at a lot where they tore down an 1884 house last week, it is one of those skinny but long lots. the front yard is only about 20 feet deep, so i covered it pretty well in the hour I was there. The backyard is really long but has brush all over it. The owner told me it should be cleared out this week so I can go back and hit the back sometime soon.

Got a silver quarter...BARELY...1964..lol, 4 wheats, aluminum junk token, a token that says ONE PENNY, has my ton name on it and is dated 1856, no idea what it is??? And also got my first ever Chinese coin, I have seen a lot of these posted, any idea how to tell how old it is?

"Masonic Penny" token of the R.A.M. or Royal Arch Masons lodge in Van Wert, Ohio.

The 1856 is when the lodge was founded, not the date of the coin.

The initials are, depending on how one reads them:
HTWSSTKS is "Hiram of Tyre, Widow's Son, Sent To King Solomon"
KSHTWSST is "King Solomon Had Twelve Wives Some Say Twenty"

:)

It appears that among your great finds, one is a chinese 'cash coin'. Personally, I find them interesting, but they have no exceptional value. So many were made, for many centuries, they are nearly as plentiful as the grains of sand on a beach!

Wikipedia will give you a quick insight into their production. I think it's fascinating!

Oh yeah, that's a great find that Masonic penny....Masons had their own currency and it's not too common to find one of those. At least it isn't for me. I have been hoping for one.

Congrats!

Nice coins...congrats!

Hey, Thanks DMN, that link helped me ID a few of those Chinese coins I had dug too!

great looking finds!!!! MR TUFF

That is for sure a Masonic Penny. My wife has her grandfathers Mason Penny and we were just looking at night before last. Of course it has a different lodge name on it, but it is what it is.

Congrats !!! Love the token :icon_thumright:

Your Chinese coin is a 1736 - 1795 RenZhong.....1 cash coin.....this particular coin is common.
BUT.....I i.d.ed another Chinese coin for a friend out in California.....he had found many.....all were common, but one.....
it was worth about $100.00. Chinese coins are just like any countries coins......most are common, but a few are very
valuable.
I find many here in S. Korea, where I live/hunt. I will be glad to help and value, any other Chinese, or Korean coins that
you find. Have been here for about 35 + years......and been hunting/digging the Korean hills for 33 + years.
Good hunting.....find a bunch......and if you find any, hikeinmts@hotmail.com will get you an answer.

yes, check out Chinese Coins
they have a lot of photos and descriptions - helps immensely!

I always wondered what this thing was....neat to see another dug.
