Top, thumb-break breechloading external hammer shotgun. 1870's to 1890's.

I have a double barrel 12 gauge with hammers and looks just like that. It's a Pioneer arms and the last year the company was in business was 1906. I still use the gun for bird hunting every year. Nice find.

Wolverine.

My guess is a double barrel pin fire 12 gauge. The overall design is hard to determine the make of the gun, but I am sure its a 12 gauge pin fire. Have you ever found the brass from the paper hull shotgun shells? This is the gun that used to fire the old black powder paper hull shotgun shells. I own one myself and it dates back into the late 1860's

Good find and have a great day!

Not a pinfire, this receiver has central firing pins, center fire. On a pinfire the cartridge has a "pin" with the primer in it that extends through a slot at the top of the receiver. The hammers hit this pin firing the cartridge.

Also that breechblock carried side lock actions. My guess, late 19th very early 20th century.
