Shot Indian Head

Hi everyone!
Went for a short hunt after work today found this pretty neat indian that someone shot a long time ago. Its pretty chewed up but is still pretty cool and is my first coin that has maybe been shot! I also found a few schrader universal nuts too!

What do you think they shot it with? No bullets that small, hole not made by a bullet. Usually shot coins have a big dent in them, not a hole. A tiny shotgun pellet would not make a hole, nor would a BB gun and that hole is smaller than a BB.

That did cross my mind because I thought maybe a .22 but it would be a bigger hole. Maybe someone used a punch on it?

Might have nailed it up as a good luck piece.People used to do that.Those nuts look like the ones you see on the top of urinals where the valve is.Schrader made and still makes those.Next time you,re relieving yourself.look down and you,ll see that where the valve connects to the porcelain.

I could definitely see someone putting a nail through it. Lol I didn't know that, ill have to check that out next time 😅. I thought the model T valve stem covers went over the top of them.

I only thought that because of all the dang model T stuff I'm finding out in that area lol. But I never knew they made those parts as well!

Congrats on the Indian !

Many years ago it was common to drill holes in coins and use them as washers.
Much easier than taking a horse and buggy all the way to town.

A lot of times people would drill or punch a hole in a coin and use them as a washer

Cool IH, though it has been suggested it may of been used as a washer it is a very small hole.
I'm thinking it was strung to hang as the wear on both sides is often seen on early coinage that was been sewn into garments.
That been said though most of the holed coinage is on the rim side. (pic is for ref. of wear and location)
If had 2 holes on the outer sides then a whizzer might be the other option for the holes.

PepperJ I think the coin you show in the picture was the one i shot and lost . They threw it in the air for me I drew my pistol and shot it. I should have aimed for the center but i didn't LOL

Holed- not shot. Extremely small hole for a bullet and before a bullet passes through a coin- it bends it. None the less- congratulations on an awesome unique old coin!

I'd rather find a holed or counter stamped coin over a worn out one anyday.
It gives them character, shown that they've been used for something other than a piece of currency.
Back in the day something was broke-had very little money or to get a replacement wasn't always an easy.
Folks were more handy I believe back in the day also.
Wreath buckle, coin was used to replace the center.
