Those twin balls are geodes.if you cut them open they have crystals,maybe pyrite in them
i have found alot of them here in ohio.

These are most of mine, the rest are buried under a few inches of snow in a flower bed. The small ones are historic clay gameballs or marbles.

I bought one for the same reason and ever since, it has not stopped raining and the rivers are high and boiling mad. Oh, well. :dontknow:

Someday they will recede and when they do the material that has been stirred up ought to be worth it.

Nice looking frame of artifacts creek. Are those manos to the left of the balls?

I just realized the largest of my pieces I posted has a faint groove that goes all the way around, guess it may be a hammerstone. It's pretty hard to see but it's there.

Thx BW.Hows it been goin Brent?good to see you back posting.your flooded and we are covered in snow.someday the snow will melt and the water will recede and then there will be flinty fun for us.i hope it is soon because the ole lady is startin to think i am goin insane,she caught me in the garage sitting in my canoe with my dog this past weekend.lol.that double ball is pretty cool,have to go geo on it,but i would have brought it home too. :headbang:

thx 37,thats a cool tool.i read an article about grooved hammerstones/mauls not too long ago.apparently here in ohio these spherical shaped grooved hammerstones are not typically found far from flint quarries.large quanities of these tools were found in the flint ridge quarry pits.they got the name flint ridge mauls since they were found at that quarry.there was a maul found at flint ridge that weighed 100 pounds.can you imagine swinging that thing??the peice directly left of the balls is what i think to be an axe preform,hard to see in the pic but it has been pecked all the way around it where they were starting to place the groove.and the other peice may have been used as a hammerstone,mano,grinder or maybe an anvil/platform.it has use wear on all edges and is litely polished on both faces.you gotta love hardstone. :headbang:

100 lber...dam, that's a biggun. They probably used that one to knock big chunks of ridge out of the seem. " You gotta love hardstone " I'm starting to appreciate it more and more.
