So, I understand that you can detect from the dune line to the water. Does this apply to all beaches? Or just Florida?

Also, is the area from the dune line to the water public? Or do you still need to get permission to hunt if it's not a "public beach".

What I need is a "Beach Hunting F.A.Q."

Thanks!

Last year I check all beaches from Ocean City, MD to Cape Henlopen, DE. They all allow detecting of the beaches. If they had protected dunes they were of limits. Also any curfew for the beach needed to be respected. Most actually did not have a specific rule for detecting as it does not harm the sandy beaches at all and gets people to the resort, which is what the name of the game is in beach towns. I contacted town offices or police stations. They were all cordial and responded quickly.

you have to check diffrent areas, some county parks in FL require a permit(pinellas county ) to hunt on the beach in the park, but most regular beach areas don't require 1.

So, if there are residential houses on the coast, is the area between the dune to the water off-limits? Or is that conisdered "state owned"... Like boulevards?

Thanks,

TS

Anything from waters edge to the high water mark is open to the public. The water itself is also open unless someone has a lease like the Fisher's, but that is an extreme rarity.State parks have their own rules, some do some don't allow.Beyond the high water mark is usually ok as well as long as you don't have some cranky homeowner but that is rare. Always stay off the dunes as they help prevent erosion.Good luck!

Go to the "Legal Issues" forum, then scroll down to "FLORIDA"
