Hey all,

We had a one day rain break so I figured I better take advantage of it. One of my friend's parents own a 1926 house a short distance from me that I got permission to hunt a couple weeks ago. When I arrived I learned it's been in the family since the 1940s when my friend's grandpa bought it. The backyard can't be more than 20' by 20'.

I figured it was gonna be a good day when my first target was a wheat penny, I was right. I worked the heck of the backyard, gridding the whole thing from 2 different directions.

I finished the yard and unfortunately hadn't found any silver. I was pretty surprised after finding a dozen wheats. Sometimes that's just the way it goes. However, I did the little strip of grass next to the walkway that led to the backyard and got a solid 86-88 and 7". That's usually a good sign. That is where I found the Mercury dime!

Here are my totals on the day:
-1 Merc (1942-S)
-12 Wheats (30S, 36, 46S, 48D, 5X, 52S, 53S x2, 54S, 56D x2, 58D)
-1 WA Tax Token
-1 very worn nickel (I think it might be a V but it is worn completely flat)
-1 Chinese Cash Coin

Can anyone tell me more about the Chinese cash coin? The homeowner said he remembered visiting China with his family as a kid so I bet it's from that.

Happy hunting and Merry Christmas all!

The homeowner also told me his father was in the occupation forces of Japan in 1945-46 so the coin could also be related to that.

Great Haul !!

Good totals on your keepers! That was a good hunt!

A very good day, indeed!! Nice variety of keepers and some silver to brighten the day..........congrats!!
(I've done several yards that gave up wheats, but no silver.......just the way it goes.........)

I’m trying to dig a set of 1941 and up wheaties, I’m three coins short, all S mint marks. I never find them, and you got a hand full of them, this might only be of interest to me.

Congrats on the nice hunt sir!

Congratualtions on the awesome old coin shooting day! :occasion14:

Congrats on the nice hunt sir!

Where do you want me to plant them for you? [emoji23]

That is a good day congrats on the silver and wheats

Good for you on getting out between the raindrops.
Love those Mercurys.
Congratulations

Great Wheatie haul mate. Nice score on the Merc and old nickel too. I would think the nickel is a V just judging by it's patina. Your Chinese cash coin may date back as early as late 1600's. I have two of them. Not worth much but, still cool to find them for history sake. Very nice hunt.:headbang:

Nice hunt! Congrats on the merc and other neat finds

That turned out to be a nice yard. Congrats on your finds.
