Hey all,
We had a one day rain break so I figured I better take advantage of it. One of my friend's parents own a 1926 house a short distance from me that I got permission to hunt a couple weeks ago. When I arrived I learned it's been in the family since the 1940s when my friend's grandpa bought it. The backyard can't be more than 20' by 20'.
I figured it was gonna be a good day when my first target was a wheat penny, I was right. I worked the heck of the backyard, gridding the whole thing from 2 different directions.
I finished the yard and unfortunately hadn't found any silver. I was pretty surprised after finding a dozen wheats. Sometimes that's just the way it goes. However, I did the little strip of grass next to the walkway that led to the backyard and got a solid 86-88 and 7". That's usually a good sign. That is where I found the Mercury dime!
Here are my totals on the day:
-1 Merc (1942-S)
-12 Wheats (30S, 36, 46S, 48D, 5X, 52S, 53S x2, 54S, 56D x2, 58D)
-1 WA Tax Token
-1 very worn nickel (I think it might be a V but it is worn completely flat)
-1 Chinese Cash Coin

Can anyone tell me more about the Chinese cash coin? The homeowner said he remembered visiting China with his family as a kid so I bet it's from that.
Happy hunting and Merry Christmas all!
